The ASF helped facilitate the partnership between the community and private sector at Chemucane in the Maputo Special Reserve in Mozambique. Acting as advisers to the Ahi Zameni Chemucane community association, we facilitated funding for the community to get a 40% shareholding in Anvil Bay Lodge, as well as rental and jobs.
There are nine exclusive guest suites on offer at Anvil Bay Lodge, an exclusive eco-lodge in pristine surroundings on the Indian Ocean. The national park and marine protected area includes bays, beaches, coral reefs, lakes, rivers and spectacular wildlife, including about 350 elephants.
The timber and canvas units epitomise the theme of ‘barefoot luxury’ and guests can enjoy the unspoilt surroundings and pristine location to their heart’s content, knowing that their holiday will have widespread benefits for the community and conservation.
Every effort has been made in construction to preserve the environment and to ensure a low carbon footprint. Lodge concession fees are used in conservation management of the area and in the Maputo Special Reserve, and the vision of this lodge is to provide the perfect ‘get-away-from-it-all’ destination that benefits local villagers and preserves this unique wilderness for many years to come.
